Old Stuff...

On these pages we'll identify and manage the actual projects that we plan to do the week of Feb 24th. These "selected projects" have been taken from three sources: students' brainstormed ideas, faculty ideas, and students' written surveys. The projects are grouped into general categories or themes. Some important points:

  • These "selected projects" are not the be-all and end-all; in other words, some may go away and others may be added.
  • Having said that, we want to start project planning advisories, so the later we add projects the more difficult - not impossible - it will be to organize.
  • Faculty/Staff are (still) encouraged to propose/attempt projects in which they have a strong interest, e.g., a hobby. (Remember, there is time to add to the list below.)
  • We need all faculty to at least be comfortable with and at most be excited about the projects they will be facilitating.
  • Student-generated project ideas have been included, so we have met this goal and students can claim ownership.
  • Individual projects can last less than 3 days, and, therefore, a group of students can do more than one project. But the same group of students must remain with the faculty/staff for the entire 3 days. (It's just too hard to organize otherwise.)
  • We want each facilitator to plan an extra project (or two) in case you get done early. (Better too many than few.)
  • Need to figure out what boys will do 7pm-9pm. Suggestions for work with boys: character/residence life program, perhaps involving showing films and discussing relevant issues. Do we have any candidate films?

Next steps:
  1. We need faculty/staff to identify the project(s) they want to facilitate by 10/20. DONE.
  2. Facilitators provide project description by 10/20. DONE.
  3. DTF make student sign-up sheet by 10/23. DONE.
  4. Students sign-up for projects at Advisory on 11/7(?). We'll advertise the final list of offerings ahead of time. DONE.
  5. Students choose 1st, 2nd, and 3rd project choices. (Sorry, kids. No guarantees.) DONE.
  6. DTF accept students for each project by: discretion, seniority, GPA. DONE.
  7. DTF review the sign-up lists. (Some projects may be dropped, due to low enrollment.) DONE.
  8. Facilitators complete Blank Project Details sheet for their project(s). DONE.
  9. DTF announce project groups. DONE.
  10. First planning session during advisory on 11/21. DONE.
  11. Project groups determine bus/vehicle needs. DONE.
  12. Project groups determine computer needs.
  13. Project groups determine video camera needs.
  14. Project groups determine funding needs.
  15. Figure out what to do with boys in the evenings.
  16. PE assignments
  17. Friday schedule

The "Creativity Presentation" from the first day of meetings (8/11/08) is located in Moodle in Chinquapin's Teacher's Lounge area. Beware it may not look and behave the same as presented 8/11, especially if you run it on a Windows or Linux machine with something other than the version of PowerPoint the author had.
